In a week's time it would be one year since I returned to Namma Bengalooru and returnin to my home land after a hiatus of 6 years I see that Bangalore has become Bengalooru and worse itz no where close it what it used to be in the early '90s.. Yeah from a Pensioners Paradise itz turned to a Silicon Valley and unfortunately Bangalore was never planned for. Everything has deteriorated here from roads to traffic to even the green cover. I really doubt if it can be called any more the Garden City of India.
Talkin about Green cover that the city has been losin rapidly, I always wonder is the administration workin on gettin back the Greenery to Bangalore/Bengalooru, or we as citizens should be workin on it to bring the Green Cover back??? With the long walks I undertake and I see that everyday there is some tree or the other losin it to road widenin.. :-(
Off late I've been thinkin of settin up something which can bring the green cover back.. definitely there is an idea I've been workin but unfortunately I've only been ideatin on the same but never any action and I've been conveniently blamin lack of time from work to start workin towards it. But hopefully shortly I should get my act together and take the baby steps in realizin my dream.
Given the fact that I've already spent 2 years workin for a non profit I strongly believe that its the way forward rather than lookin up at settin a NGO coz then the organization would be dependin on funds which I'm totally against it. Coz I know for sure it would definitely be a non profit, which would ensure that the business model would be self sufficient.
I'm just hopin that I would kick start one of these days and work towards achieving the goal of settin up an organization which would address this issue and definitely folks be ready.. I'm definitely gonna seek your help and that too on a pro bono basis.. I hope it ain't too much to ask for :-)

way to go salu..... we all keep cribbing as to how every day the green cover is reducing but we end up doing NOTHING!! its high time we pulled our socks up n did something worthwhile on our own....!
ReplyDeletei really don't know how bangalore was in the 90's but believe me within 9 years i've seen the place change... the traffic has increased, the metro thing is ruining the m.g. road...all the trees disappeared on mysore road to make way for the express highway....its terrible!!! our only saving grace in cubbon park n lal bag..... v've got to do something about it!!
All Metros cut trees in the name of expansion, but reality is exactly what you put across - lack of planning. We can build highways without cutting trees - IT is just that we have a bureaucracy that is rusting, lazy and always takes the easy way out.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your thought to focus on what we can do. We really cannot stop the BMC from being insensitive and incompetent. So, doing our bit to bring back greenery is the best.
Even if everyone plants a tree or a sapling - just one per person, a little bit of damage control can be done, I guess :)
@Thanks Harshika!! Yep we definitely need to something I feel I've got somethin up my sleeve..unfortunately haven't been able to do justice to my thoughts.. hopefully soon I should get workin on it..
ReplyDelete@Yeah Anna.. something exactly on those lines are my ideas.. hopefully will get to work on it too :-)
