This is definitely a Mirakle!!!!!!

On my visit to Aamchi Mumbai last weekend a good friend of mine was talking about one of the courier companies which was employing deaf adults. I was definitely impressed by the thought and thought it was really cool. Not until did I chance upon their website and their work did I realize the magnitude of the social impact these folks are making. Definitely a touching gesture but with a business sense and given the fact that I've worked with the development sector this is definitely the way to go!!!!!! Keep rockin Mirakle and hope you reach out to more franchises!!!!!!!!

Synopsis:

Mirakle Couriers is a courier company with a difference as we employ only deaf adults. Deafness is an invisible disability, and has been largely ignored in India. All the staff members including delivery personnel are deaf.

Our business model is based on creating a service driven profitable enterprise that uses the deaf. To this end, we marry professional excellence with social cause. While our services are currently available only in Mumbai, we plan to extend our operations to other cities soon.

We are not a charity but a social business, where the social element is embedded in the commercial operations. Our corporate clients have shown their trust in our business and our cause by availing our services. Our list of clients includes Mahindra & Mahindra, The Aditya Birla Group, Victory Art Foundation, JSW Group, Indian Hotels Company, Godrej & Boyce and Essel Propack.

P.S: If you folks are from Mumbai do use them to encourage them and yeah already a friend of mine has informed me that her organization plans to start using their service!!!!

Racism!!! Don't we have a double standards in India????

Recently I was readin an article on Racism and attacks on Indians in Australia and currently guess our beloved Obama is in thick of Racism too... But the article threw up an interestin point which had crossed my mind too and thought I would bring it up with my readers for a discussion.

Sure we all saw how animated our ministers to the common man was ventin their anger on the RACISM which happened down under. Well definitely its nice to know that our thoughts and feelings were addressed by our beloved politicians but my contention is why do we limit ourselves when we get attacked in a foreign country???? Don't we all say that we should only complain about others once we set our house in order???? Then why aren't we makin a hue and cry about our own racism which is widely prevalent in India???? and beat this its socially accepted!!!!!! Talk about irony....

Well still wonderin about what racism we have in India????? Well just check out any matrimonial site or ads in the newspapers and you would see what I'm talkin off. Coz all the men need fair and beautiful lookin women and the women advertise saying they are very fair to fair and beautiful looking!!!!!!!! and whatever happens to women and men who are of the darker shade???? oh yeah its socially acceptable, then why would we term it as Racism???? huh?????.. Talk about double standards.

Worse, surprisingly China and India are the biggest market for fairness cream. I understand India but why the Chinesee???? Well supposedly even being really fair for them fetches them a good bridegroom in the market. Ahhhhhh!!!! And our ads, I personally think we should sue them. Check this ad where the woman and the family is depressed coz she is dark, thanks to a particular fairness cream, she becomes fair and lands up with a plum job tooo.. why would you do that???? Isn't it RACISM at its best????? Naaaaaa again we would be told its socially acceptable. I would say itz Nonsense. There are other stories where you are looked down upon if you have a dark child and if its a girl even more worse but hell we are more worried about bein attacked down under.

Well anyways, not to lose heart for the darker shaded folks, I've been told by a friend of mine if you are of a darker shade and well sculpted body (that takes some hard work ;-) ) you are treated as GODs by the women in Italy. Go try your luck there :P

Lastly, if we go by the matrimonial site/ads demand we would be one hell of a healthy nation, coz not only do they want fair but also slim woman guess thatz another discussion all together.

Aamchi Mumbai!!!!!!!

Every time I visit Mumbai, the city never bores me, infact I for some reason feel very much at home, and itz one of those cities where I would love to spend time working for few years, though not very sure if I should make it my home but yeah I wouldn't mind it making my home.

This time around, I got to stay in a really nice place in Bandra and was put up with this very good friend with whom I could tickle my intellectual thoughts and also get an honest feedback on my thought process. I think overall we complement each others thought process and also help each other look at other options.

Then, another really good friend of mine who insisted that I be picked up from the airport and dropped and it was an honor to have her and children joinin us for dinner and it got even better coz I was picked up from the airport and decided we would do the new addition to Mumbai the Sea link and it was worth the drive by the lights.

Then Sat was the usual pilgrimage of Colaba, dinin at Leopold and some shoppin for books and gifts at Bombay Store and the evening was spent with a very good friend of mine with who I studied durin my colleges days and beat this, he is one guy who knew it very early in life what he wanted to do, quit college and followed his passion and today he is one of the well knows guys in the industry and I'm sooo proud of him, like my friend put it, "I sound like a proud father" ;-) well I would see it as a proud friend.

Sun was breakfast by the sea front on Carter road, followed by an amazin lunch at the same friend who picked me up from the airport, again was treated to some awesome beer and snacks and conversation followed by lunch and then the icin was the dessert. Well I call it a payasam but she was callin it somethin which I can't recall ;-)

Well, by now had my another good friend comin up from Pune to meet up with me, so we head to pick him up at the mall where he is waitin on us and guess what, the women folk end up shoppin and I hope they like what I suggested :P and then we decided to head to HardROCK Cafe and well thanks to all of us goin there for the first time, had no clue where it was, while we were figurin out our way, had already my ex-roomie again a good friend waitin on us. We took about an hour and half to figure out our way and all the while the poor chap was waitin on us but I guess the crowd (read and us ;-)) and the music made up for it. It was one hell of a night and we enjoyed every bit of it.

After we got kicked out of the place ;-) at half past one in the night, we hitched a cab back home but thanks to our friend, kinda ensured that we had a long time and we kept on signin away to glory, poor cab driver. Well then reached home, packed and went to bed at half past three and then got up at quater to five to rush to the airport, and yeah made it on time for the flight :-)

It was three night and days of AWESOME fun and thanks to all the friends who went out of their way to make it happen. You folks make me feel that I should keep returnin to Mumbai :-) and I hope I can sometime soon :-)

True Sportsman Spirit!!!!

Yesterday I was watchin WWE Classics.. which we all have known as WWF durin our school days and they were featurin a fight between Bret the HITMAN and 123 Kid, not sure how many of them recall them but I was a Big fan of Bret the HITMAN and just couldn't stop myself from watchin it but wait therez more.. itz one of those matches fought way back on July 11 1994 and it was an interestin match out there and I was rootin for HITMAN as usual and it was the championship which was at stake for him.

He did the most unusual thing which we never get to see. He refused to be acknowledged to be declared the winner coz 123 Kid was havin his leg over the rope when the count down happened and though the referee didn't see it and he called for the match to be ended, HITMAN refused to accept it and told the ref that the match should continue.. Hey how many of us would do that, coz we are all in the rat race that we would only care to win either hook or crook and here is a man who refused to accept his victory in any evil way.

Then after some consultation, the match resumes and HITMAN goes on to win the watch and beat this, this time he beats him legally and then doesn't want his hand to be raised as the winner, instead he goes upto the KID and asks if he is ok and ensures that the KID gets back to his feet and then goes on to raise the KID's hand... Hell how many of us would do that now?????? none would be my answer coz we are all so god damn selfish that we are more worried on our winnings rather than see whom we really brought down..

I feel vindicated that when I know that guy whom I worshipped durin my school days was truly a CHAMPION in all sense and wish that I've taken some good points from him and hope to imply those in my daily life and hope these lines from him "The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be" is something we all try livin upto in our lives.

*Note on HITMAN* Source Wiki:
Hart himself frequently described himself as "The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be" (derived from the 1984 film The Natural), which he justifies through three claims: he never injured an opponent through any fault of his own; through the entire course of his career he missed only one show (as a result of flight difficulties); and that he only once refused to lose a scripted match—his final WWF match with Shawn Michaels at the Survivor Series event in 1997, which culminated in the now infamous Montreal Screwjob

Because Of You - Kelly Clarkson

When I met up my friends over the weekend, they were givin me a feedback sayin that I'm become too senti with my status messages and blog.. guess can't blame them nor can I find a reason why I'm on those lines.. but anyways just couldn't resist postin one of the songs which I really like... Kelly is one of the winners of American Idol and love her for this song!!!!! hope you folks enjai it too :-)

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did,
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake
A smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry in the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I try my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don't know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty
Because of you
I am afraid

Because of you
Because of you

Roger Federer Unbuttoned - By ROGER COHEN

Sure most of us would have seen Roger V/s Andy Wimbledon Finals.. I felt it was an AWESOME match and yeah definitely Andy played better but then only the greatest could have defeated Andy that day and guess it was only Roger. An nice article on Roger from NY Times, thought of sharin it with

Roger Federer Unbuttoned - By ROGER COHEN

After losing to Jimmy Connors in 16 consecutive matches and then doing the unthinkable by winning, Vitas Gerulaitis commented: “And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row!”can be a crushing sport. Andy Roddick must have had Gerulaitis’ sinking feeling many times in the course of his 19 defeats in 21 matches to Roger Federer. I watched several of those encounters and Roddick, hustling through his unvarying game, tugging at his sweat-soaked shirt, resembled a guy banging his head against a wall.

It was different in Sunday’s epic Wimbledon men’s final. A slimmer, smarter, more purposeful Roddick played the game of his life, holding serve 37 times in a row and reinventing his long vulnerable backhand as a down-the-line weapon of choice, before coming up short against the Federer machine. The case that Federer, 27, is not the greatest player of all time has become untenable.

It’s not merely Federer’s five U.S. Opens, three Australians, one French and six Wimbledons — a record of 15 Grand Slam singles titles, one better now, as the world knows, than Pete Sampras. It’s not just his 21 consecutive Grand Slam semifinals. It’s not only his relentless consistency, uncanny timing, impossible angles, ferocious forehand, dinking deftness or big-point cool.

No, there’s something else at work here. People develop Federer obsessions the way teenagers have crushes. They can’t get the guy out of their heads. The late novelist David Foster Wallace, a devotee, said of one Federer forehand against Andre Agassi that, “It was impossible. It was like something out of ‘The Matrix.’”

I think that gets us close to the heart of the matter. Let me put this bluntly: Is Roger Federer part of a Matrix-like artificial reality or is he flesh and blood?

During the final, I couldn’t help focusing on three things. The first was the button on Federer’s Nike shirt. Through more than four hours of punishing tennis, sun-baked by British standards, it remained buttoned up. I mean, come on!

Think back to the upstart Andy Murray, the latest Brit who couldn’t quite, in his losing semifinal to Roddick. The Murray shirt was unbuttoned, of course, and somewhat disheveled, like his game on the day, and there was absolutely no question about the young man’s appurtenance to the human race, a rather surly branch of it at that.

The second was the absence from Federer’s face of even a bead of sweat as droplets poured from Roddick’s forehead and slid from the underside of his endlessly adjusted cap — further evidence for The Matrix theory.

The third was the fact that Federer wore a belt — a belt — in his stylish shorts, as if he was ambling through a Calvin Klein ad rather than serving 50 nonchalant aces and putting on a record-breaking athletic display.

Perfection is always a little unworldly, the more so when it’s packaged in Switzerland, and of course perfection can be galling. I wanted Roddick to win because he may never play that well again while Federer will seldom play much less well. I wanted Roddick to win because he broke a sweat.

So is Federer real, or is he in fact the computer-simulated perfect tennis player, a science fiction hero, his body heat drawn invisibly into energy creation, switching from slice to topspin backhand on the basis of some nerd’s formula no opponent can grasp or grapple with for long?

I know, Federer broke down at the Australian Open after his five-set loss to Rafael Nadal in February, sobbing into the microphone and saying, “God, it’s killing me.” A few weeks later, in Miami, he lost the plot entirely during an error-strewn semifinal loss to Novak Djokovic, smashing his racket as he often did during his tantrum-filled youth.

My colleague Christopher Clarey wrote then that it “was like watching the owner of a health food store start fumbling through his desk drawer for a long-lost pack of cigarettes.”

Case closed, it seems. Federer, he of the warm smile and perfect love affair with Mirka Vavrinec, is indeed human. He rages, he cries, he gets sick, he has back aches and doubts, and occasionally he just can’t take it any more.

Unless, of course, all this is only further proof of the devious genius of Federer’s cyber-creators, who imbued him with a touch of human vulnerability in order to lull young upstarts like Murray and Djokovic and Nadal into thinking he was past his peak, and so open the way for the French and Wimbledon triumphs this year.

Perhaps I’m over-suspicious, or undergoing a severe case of obsessive envy, but when Vavrinec gives birth in the next few weeks, I’d say there’s a case for the Association of Tennis Professionals ordering a quick examination of what flows in the baby’s veins.

And then of course, as a last resort, we can ask the masterful, charming and irresistible Federer to take the red pill and reveal all to the human world.

OurSourced - The Movie

Last night I was just browsing through the channels and I happen to chance upon something like a call center and an American tryin to handle things and then I stopped switchin channels simply coz the movie was hilarious and captivating, pretty thin story line but I suppose given my exposure with the expat community out here in India I just felt that there was quite a bit of learnin for them and us :-)

In Theaters

Outsourced is a modern day comedy of cross-cultural conflict and romance. Todd Anderson (Josh Hamilton) spends his days managing a customer call center in Seattle until his job, along with those of the entire office, are outsourced to India. Adding insult to injury, Todd must travel to India to train his new replacement. As he navigates through the chaos of Bombay and an office paralyzed by constant cultural misunderstandings, Todd yearns to return to the comforts of home. But it is through his team of quirky yet likable Indian call center workers, including his friendly and motivated replacement, Puro (Asif Basra), and the charming, opinionated Asha (Ayesha Dharker), that Todd realizes that he too has a lot to learn - not only about India and America, but about himself. He soon discovers that being outsourced may be the best thing that ever happened to him.

I was sooo keen on textin all my expat friends to switch on to the channel but just couldn't get myself out of the bed to reach for my mobile but sure rest assured I should be shortly recommendin the same to them :-)

Self made V/s Heir Apparent

I was just talkin to a friend of mine yesterday and we were discussin about how we should be given the option of choosin our career instead of some course being pushed down our throats simply coz folks and the rest of them believe that this is the best that could happen to you.

And if you happen to mistakenly join a course which your folks push you in, could you still get out of it half way through and start your own career????? Well, I was of the opinion that yeah very few could take that risk coz they are born into a family where money has not been a criteria and they could take all the time in figurin out what exactly they want to do in life.. sure it ain't possible for someone who knows that once you get out the course you need to work and ensure that you are bringin money onto the family table.

That takes me to the next question, why aren't all Heir Apparent to their family wealth never in the league of their predecessor's???? Definitely there are exceptions, but I think I can safely say that 90% of them just don't make the cut. I've always pondered why??? Is it their upbringin of not knowing an difficulty in life..????. is that they know that they really needn't worry coz they have the family wealth to fall upon on??? Or they aren't just keen to work hard????

On the other side if you see, most of them who have made it big is usually gone through hell to reach where ever they are and even more better, they are so rooted in their beliefs that they just know exactly what to do but guess there's the curse they have to put up with.. their KIDS!!!!! This even holds good for people who hold high offices in governments and private organizations!!!

Guess somewhere the kids are made to forget the ground realities and then when the face the future on their own, they kinda get confused as to how to handle the same!!!!

treesforfree.org

I was wanting to write something special on my 50th blog and what better way than introducin a novel idea to my readers!!!

Few months ago I was walkin around Bangalore and I saw that we were losing the green cover thanks to all the construction and road widenin and I was thinkin, why don't I start an organization wherein I could encourage people to plant trees and restore the green cover to Bangalore. Then I went about sharin my ideas with few of my friends I saw that everyone was pretty receptive to the idea. Then I decided I would work on the same and prepare a business case, yeah thanks to my exposure to non profits. Well, the idea was conceptualized but never took off guess I had other priorities. But promised that I would work towards it and then an article India Today drew my attention and thatz when I was introduced to Janet Yegneswaran and her organization Trees for Free (http://treesforfree.org/).

She and her organization was doing exactly what I had in mind, after which I read her blog and website and realized her organization was workin towards exactly what I had in mind. But definitely I feel I can contribute more to her organization and have promised that I would be touchin base with her shortly to brainstorm few of my ideas too and ensure that I do my bit in gettin more people to plant trees.

Currently her organization only covers Bangalore but definitely she is open to expanding to other places but is looking for interested people to help her in her endeavor.

You can also follow her blog on http://treesforfree.blogspot.com/

Yeah so now you know!!!!!! PLANT A TREE and encourage others too :-)
