The weekend, though would have been a routine weddin that I have been attendin for god knows how long now, had throw a wonderful surprise. Though I was expected to attend the weddin, jam up with my good friends in Calicut and then visit one of my good friend's family, meetin up with my ex-colleagues from Titan and meetin up with the present set of team was a nice surprise.
In the mornin, when one of them checked with me if I was comin for the weddin, I knew it would be great to catch up with my ex- colleague, but then towards the evenin the picture got brighter and I knew I was meetin my ex-colleagues and also my ex boss along with the present team for which I hadn't warranted. But it was indeed great to catch up with them after good 3 years and I see that none of us have changed much except for our designations with respect to our organizations, everything else was the same. The joy of meetin up, sharin market views, how we addressed our issues at work and what fun it was workin for the organization.
Definitely, the meet also threw up some interestin topics with respect to how we should be handlin our partner channel and there were ideological clashes, which were welcome, simply coz I strongly believe that we all have our own way of workin towards a solution in different ways and thatz what makes us interestin. I as a person always believed that havin a personal rapport would help build business and that always was my way of doin things, but then I was questioned as to how can we get things done. I was more than glad to clear my perspective to my predecessor and how I've been able to do things the way I believed in.
BOTTOM LINE: We all have our own way of gettin things done, definitely it would work for one but wouldn't work for another. I know I've set a precedence which my predecessor might not have expected but sure you would appreciate that even after 3 years when I meet my associates, they relate to me as a person or individual and not as a person from the company and I suppose thatz the way I like it. Remember the sayin, love your job but never your company ;-)

The first line of 'Bottomline' is the line of truth :). It is a choice everyone makes at work - to be task oriented or people oriented. There are no right or wrong choices - only your choices.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I fall into your category too :). A lot of my ex-subs now relate to me as a person and not as 'old boss' - which is how i want it to be :)
